Science
Intent
The National Curriculum for music aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Develop scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding through the specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics
- Develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them
- Are equipped with the scientific skills required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future. We understand that it is important for lessons to have a skills-based focus, and that the knowledge can be taught through this
At Sowe Valley Primary, it is our intent that Science be an enquiry based learning journey where questions are constantly at the for front of our minds, continually thinking about how we can investigate, prove, disprove and challenge our knowledge of a range of concepts. We recognise the importance of understanding Science in everyday life and the significance of being equipped with scientific vocabulary, knowledge, methods and processes of Science in order to continue to build upon our progressive, prior knowledge. Sowe Valley children build a respect for their equipment and work with confidence, sensibly and actively. During Scientific learning, we want our children to be naturally curious about the world around them, in doing so, we make links to our main topics, where appropriate, to continue to immerse and engage our young scientists.
